[274] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing six qualities is worthy of gifts … an unsurpassed field of merit for the world. With which six? With the faith faculty (saddhindriya), the energy faculty (vīriyindriya), the mindfulness faculty (satindriya), the concentration (samādhi) faculty (samādhindriya), and the wisdom faculty (paññindriya); and, with the destruction of the taints (āsava), he realizes for himself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti), and having entered upon it, he dwells therein. Possessing these six qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of reverential salutation, an unsurpassed field of merit for the world.
