[342] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing six qualities is incapable of attaining, in each and every case, the capacity for realization (sakkhibhabbatā), though there is a suitable basis (āyatana). What six? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu does not understand as it really is: "These dhammas partake of decline"; he does not understand as it really is: "These dhammas partake of stability"; he does not understand as it really is: "These dhammas partake of distinction"; he does not understand as it really is: "These dhammas partake of penetration"; and he is one who acts without care and one who does what is unsuitable. Possessing these six qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is incapable of attaining, in each and every case, the capacity for realization, though there is a suitable basis.
