[348] Bhikkhus, without abandoning six dhammas, one is incapable of realizing a superhuman state (uttarimanussadhamma), the distinction in knowledge (ñāṇa) and vision worthy of the noble ones. What six? Muddled mindfulness (muṭṭhasacca), lack of clear comprehension (asampajañña), not guarding the doors of the sense faculties (indriyesu aguttadvāratā), lack of moderation in eating (bhojane amattaññutā), deceit (kuhanā), and flattery (lapanā). Bhikkhus, without abandoning these six dhammas, one is incapable of realizing a superhuman state, the distinction in knowledge and vision worthy of the noble ones.
Bhikkhus, having abandoned six dhammas, one is capable of realizing a superhuman state, the distinction in knowledge and vision worthy of the noble ones. What six? Muddled mindfulness, lack of clear comprehension, not guarding the doors of the sense faculties, lack of moderation in eating, deceit, and flattery. Bhikkhus, having abandoned these six dhammas, one is capable of realizing a superhuman state, the distinction in knowledge and vision worthy of the noble ones.
