[4] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing five qualities is deposited in hell (niraya) just as if he had been carried and put there. Which five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is without faith (assaddha), is without moral shame (ahirika), is without moral dread (anottappī), is lazy (kusīta), and is unwise (duppañña). Possessing these five qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is deposited in hell just as if he had been carried and put there.
Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing five qualities is deposited in heaven (sagga) just as if he had been carried and put there. Which five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu has faith (saddhā), has moral shame (hirimā), has moral dread (ottappī), has aroused energy (āraddhavīriya), and is wise (paññavā). Possessing these five qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is deposited in heaven just as if he had been carried and put there.
