[176] [86] "Friends, possessing five qualities a bhikkhu is capable of benefiting himself and capable of benefiting others. Which five? Here, friends, a bhikkhu is not indeed quick in grasping wholesome dhammas; yet he is one who retains in mind the dhammas he has heard; he examines the meaning of the dhammas he has retained; having understood the meaning and understood the dhamma, he practises in accordance with the Dhamma (dhammānudhammapaṭipanna); he is one of lovely speech (kalyāṇavāca) …; and he is one who instructs … his companions in the holy life (sabrahmacārī). Possessing these five qualities, friends, a bhikkhu is capable of benefiting himself and capable of benefiting others."
