[214] Bhikkhus, these nine persons are worthy of gifts (āhuneyya), worthy of hospitality (pāhuneyya), worthy of offerings (dakkhiṇeyya), worthy of reverential salutation (añjalikaraṇīya), an incomparable field of merit for the world. Which nine? The Arahant, the one practicing for Arahantship; the Non-Returner (anāgāmī), the one practicing for the realization of the fruition of Non-Returning; the Once-Returner (sakadāgāmī), the one practicing for the realization of the fruition of Once-Returning; the Stream-Enterer (sotāpanna), the one practicing for the realization of the fruition of Stream-Entry; and the one at the change-of-lineage (gotrabhū). These, bhikkhus, are the nine persons worthy of gifts … an incomparable field of merit for the world.
