[3] Bhikkhus, there are these seven powers (bala). What seven? The power of faith (saddhābala), the power of energy (vīriyabala), the power of moral shame (hirībala), the power of moral dread (ottappabala), the power of mindfulness (satibala), the power of concentration (samādhibala), and the power of wisdom (paññābala). These, bhikkhus, are the seven powers.
The power of faith, the power of energy,
moral shame and moral dread as powers,
the power of mindfulness, the power of concentration (samādhi),
and wisdom, verily, the seventh power —
strong with these powers, a wise bhikkhu
lives happily.
Methodically he should investigate the Dhamma,
clearly seeing its meaning with wisdom;
like the quenching of a lamp
is the liberation of his mind (citta).
