[2] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessed of seven qualities is not dear to his companions in the holy life (sabrahmacārī), not agreeable, not respected, and not esteemed. What seven? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is desirous of gain, desirous of honor, and desirous of not being looked down upon (anavaññattikāma); he is without moral shame (ahirika), without moral dread (anottappī), envious, and stingy. Possessed of these seven qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is not dear to his companions in the holy life, not agreeable, not respected, and not esteemed.

Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is not desirous of gain, not desirous of honor, and not desirous of not being looked down upon; he has moral shame (hirī) and moral dread (ottappa); he is not envious and not stingy. Possessed of these seven qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is dear to his companions in the holy life, agreeable, respected, and esteemed.
