[77] Bhikkhus, possessed of seven qualities, a bearer of the Discipline (vinayadhara) shines. What seven? He knows an offense (āpatti); he knows a non-offense; he knows a light offense; he knows a heavy offense; and both Pātimokkhas have been well transmitted to him in detail, well analyzed, well mastered, well determined, as to rule (sutta) and as to detail (anubyañjana); of the four jhānas … he is one who gains [them] without difficulty; with the destruction of the taints (āsava) … having realized [it] for himself, he enters and dwells [therein]. Bhikkhus, possessed of these seven qualities, a bearer of the Discipline shines.
