[82] Bhikkhus, it is through the breaking of seven things (dhammas) that one is a bhikkhu. Of what seven? Personality-view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi) is broken; doubt (vicikicchā) is broken; adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa) is broken; lust (rāga) is broken; hatred (dosa) is broken; delusion (moha) is broken; conceit (māna) is broken. It is through the breaking of these seven things, bhikkhus, that one is a bhikkhu.
