[101] Bhikkhus, three perceptions of an ascetic (samaṇasaññā), when developed and made much of, fulfil seven dhammas. What three? "I have entered upon a condition apart from class (vevaṇṇiya)"; "My livelihood is bound up with others"; "A different deportment is now to be practised by me." These, bhikkhus, are the three perceptions of an ascetic which, when developed and made much of, fulfil seven dhammas. What seven? One is constantly acting, constantly conducting oneself, with regard to the virtues; one is without covetousness; one is without ill will; one is without excessive conceit; one is desirous of the training; with regard to the requisites of life one has the reflection, "This is their purpose"; and one dwells with energy aroused. These, bhikkhus, are the three perceptions of an ascetic which, when developed and made much of, fulfil these seven dhammas.
