[102] Bhikkhus, these seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), when developed and cultivated, fulfill the three true knowledges (vijjā). What seven? The awakening factor of mindfulness (sati), the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), the awakening factor of energy (vīriya), the awakening factor of rapture (pīti), the awakening factor of tranquility (passaddhi), the awakening factor of concentration (samādhi), and the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhā). These seven factors of awakening, bhikkhus, when developed and cultivated, fulfill the three true knowledges.
What three? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu recollects his manifold past abodes (pubbenivāsa), that is: one birth, two births … thus, with their aspects and particulars, he recollects his manifold past abodes. With the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human … he understands beings as faring according to their kamma. With the destruction of the taints (āsava) … having realized it, he enters upon and dwells [therein].
These seven factors of awakening, bhikkhus, when developed and cultivated, fulfill these three true knowledges.
