[167] "Bhikkhus, I shall teach you what is good (sādhu) and what is not good (asādhu). Listen to it and attend carefully; I shall speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "And what, bhikkhus, is not good? The destruction of life (pāṇātipāta), taking what is not given (adinnādāna), misconduct in sensual pleasures (kāmesu micchācāra), false speech (musāvāda), divisive speech (pisuṇā vācā), harsh speech (pharusā vācā), frivolous talk (samphappalāpa), covetousness (abhijjhā), ill will (byāpāda), and wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) — this, bhikkhus, is called what is not good. And what, bhikkhus, is good? Abstention from the destruction of life, abstention from taking what is not given, abstention from misconduct in sensual pleasures, abstention from false speech, abstention from divisive speech, abstention from harsh speech, abstention from frivolous talk, non-covetousness (anabhijjhā), non-ill will (abyāpāda), and right view (sammādiṭṭhi) — this, bhikkhus, is called what is good."
