[188] Bhikkhus, a person endowed with ten qualities should not be associated with. With which ten? He is one who destroys life (pāṇātipātī), one who takes what is not given, one who engages in sexual misconduct, one who speaks falsely, one of malicious speech, one of harsh speech, one who indulges in frivolous talk, one who is covetous, one whose mind (citta) is possessed by ill will, and one of wrong view. Bhikkhus, a person endowed with these ten qualities should not be associated with.
Bhikkhus, a person endowed with ten qualities should be associated with. With which ten? He is one who abstains from the destruction of life, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from sexual misconduct, abstains from false speech, abstains from malicious speech, abstains from harsh speech, abstains from frivolous talk; he is uncovetous, his mind is without ill will, and he is one of right view. Bhikkhus, a person endowed with these ten qualities should be associated with.
