[199] Bhikkhus, one possessed of twenty qualities is deposited in hell (niraya) as if carried and put there. With which twenty? One kills living beings oneself and encourages others in the killing of living beings; one takes what is not given oneself and encourages others in taking what is not given; one engages in sexual misconduct oneself and encourages others in sexual misconduct; one speaks falsely oneself and encourages others in false speech; one speaks maliciously oneself and encourages others in malicious speech; one speaks harshly oneself and encourages others in harsh speech; one engages in frivolous talk oneself and encourages others in frivolous talk; one is covetous oneself and encourages others in covetousness; one has a mind of ill will oneself and encourages others in ill will; one holds wrong view oneself and encourages others in wrong view. Bhikkhus, one possessed of these twenty qualities is deposited in hell as if carried and put there.
Bhikkhus, one possessed of twenty qualities is placed in heaven as if carried and put there. With which twenty? One abstains from the killing of living beings oneself and encourages others in abstention from the killing of living beings; one abstains from taking what is not given oneself and encourages others in abstention from taking what is not given; one abstains from sexual misconduct oneself and encourages others in abstention from sexual misconduct; one abstains from false speech oneself and encourages others in abstention from false speech; one abstains from malicious speech oneself and encourages others in abstention from malicious speech; one abstains from harsh speech oneself and encourages others in abstention from harsh speech; one abstains from frivolous talk oneself and encourages others in abstention from frivolous talk; one is non-covetous oneself and encourages others in non-covetousness; one has a mind without ill will oneself and encourages others in non-ill will; one holds right view oneself and encourages others in right view.
