[152] 6. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. Now on that occasion the Venerable Aññātakoṇḍañña was seated not far from the Blessed One, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect, reviewing his liberation through the destruction of craving (taṇhā). Then the Blessed One, having understood this matter, on that occasion uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
"He for whom there is no root in the soil,
no leaves — whence a creeper?
That wise one, freed from bondage —
who is worthy to blame him?
Even the devas praise him;
by Brahmā too he is praised."
