[153] 7. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. Now on that occasion the Blessed One was sitting reviewing his own abandonment of the perceptions and notions born of proliferation (papañcasaññāsaṅkhā).
Then the Blessed One, having known his own abandonment of the perceptions and notions born of proliferation, at that time uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
"For whom there are no proliferations (papañcā) and no persistence,
who has passed beyond the tie and the bar—
that sage (muni), free of craving (taṇhā), as he fares on,
even the world with its devas does not despise."
