[183] 5. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard: "Bhikkhus, abandon one thing; I am your guarantor (pāṭibhoga) for non-returning (anāgāmitā). What one thing? Denigration (makkha) — bhikkhus, abandon this one thing, and I am your guarantor for non-returning." The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In that connection, this is said: "Beings smeared with denigration go to a bad destination; having rightly understood that denigration, those who see with insight abandon it; and having abandoned it, they never come back to this world at any time." This meaning, too, was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The Fifth.
