[190] 2. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard: "Bhikkhus, without directly knowing and fully understanding anger (kodha), without detaching the mind (citta) from it and abandoning it, one is incapable of the destruction of suffering (dukkha). But, bhikkhus, directly knowing and fully understanding anger, detaching the mind from it and abandoning it, one is capable of the destruction of suffering." The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In that connection, this is said: [Apparatus note 1: The Burmese and European editions read "vaggamāhu."] "The anger through which angry beings go to a bad destination (duggati) — rightly understanding that anger, those who see with insight abandon it; having abandoned it, they come no more to this world at any time." This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The second.
