[191] 3. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, without directly knowing and fully understanding denigration (makkha), without making the mind (citta) dispassionate toward it and abandoning it, one is incapable of the destruction of suffering (dukkha). But, bhikkhus, by directly knowing and fully understanding denigration, by making the mind dispassionate toward it and abandoning it, one is capable of the destruction of suffering."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In this connection, this is said:
"The denigration by which beings, besmirched, go to a bad destination —
having rightly understood that denigration, those with insight abandon it;
having abandoned it, they never again come to this world at any time."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard. The third.
