[209] 4. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these two things (dhammā) that cause no torment. What two? Here, bhikkhus, someone has done what is good (kalyāṇa), has done what is wholesome (kusala), has given shelter to those in fear (katabhīruttāṇo); he has not done what is evil (pāpa), has not done what is cruel (ludda), has not done what is wicked (kibbisa). He is not tormented, [thinking] 'I have done what is good,' and he is not tormented, [thinking] 'I have not done what is evil.' These, bhikkhus, are the two things that cause no torment."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. In that connection, this is said:
Having abandoned misconduct by body (kāya-duccarita)
and acts of misconduct by speech (vacī-duccarita),
having abandoned misconduct by mind (mano-duccarita)
and whatever else is tainted with fault,
not having done unwholesome action,
having done much that is wholesome —
with the breakup of the body, that wise one
is reborn in heaven (sagga).
This matter, too, was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard.
