[237] 10. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessed of three qualities, having transcended Māra's domain (māradheyya), shines like the sun. Which three? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is possessed of the aggregate of virtue (sīlakkhandha) of one beyond training (asekha); he is possessed of the aggregate of concentration (samādhikkhandha) of one beyond training; he is possessed of the aggregate of wisdom (paññākkhandha) of one beyond training. Possessed of these three qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having transcended Māra's domain, shines like the sun."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. In that connection this is said:
One in whom virtue, concentration,
and wisdom are well developed,
having transcended Māra's domain,
shines just like the sun.
This matter too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard.
The Tenth [Sutta].
The First Chapter (vagga).
Its summary (uddāna):
The Roots, the Elements, then two on Feeling (vedanā),
two Searches (esanā) and two on the Taints (āsavā),
Craving (taṇhā), and then Māra's Domain:
this they call the first chapter — the supreme.
