[249] 2. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard: "Bhikkhus, I have seen beings endowed with good conduct of body (kāyasucarita), endowed with good conduct of speech (vacīsucarita), endowed with good conduct of mind (manosucarita), who did not revile the noble ones (ariyā), who held right view (sammādiṭṭhi) and undertook actions based on right view, and who, with the breakup of the body, after death, were reborn in a good destination (sugati), in a heavenly world (sagga). But, bhikkhus, I do not say this because I have heard it from any other ascetic or brahmin: 'Bhikkhus, I have seen beings endowed with good conduct of body, endowed with good conduct of speech, endowed with good conduct of mind, who did not revile the noble ones, who held right view and undertook actions based on right view, and who, with the breakup of the body, after death, were reborn in a good destination, in a heavenly world.' Rather, bhikkhus, it is precisely what I have known for myself, seen for myself, and understood for myself that I declare: 'Bhikkhus, I have seen beings endowed with good conduct of body, endowed with good conduct of speech, endowed with good conduct of mind, who did not revile the noble ones, who held right view and undertook actions based on right view, and who, with the breakup of the body, after death, were reborn in a good destination, in a heavenly world.'" The Blessed One spoke this matter. In this connection it is said: "Having set the mind aright, having spoken right speech, and having done right deeds with the body, a person here — one of great learning (bahussuta), a doer of merit (puñña) in this brief life here — with the breakup of the body, that wise one is reborn in heaven." This matter too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The second.
