[48] Now at that time many bhikkhus were walking up and down in the open air. Then Bāhiya Dārucīriya approached the bhikkhus and, having approached, said to those bhikkhus: "Where, venerable sirs, is the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Enlightened One, dwelling at present? We wish to see that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Enlightened One." "Bāhiya, the Blessed One has entered among the houses for alms." Then Bāhiya Dārucīriya, in haste, departed from the Jetavana and entered Sāvatthī, and he saw the Blessed One walking for alms in Sāvatthī — inspiring confidence, worthy of confidence, with faculties (indriya) at peace, with mind at peace, attained to the supreme taming and calm, tamed, guarded, with faculties restrained — a nāga. Having seen him, he approached the Blessed One and, having approached, fell with his head at the Blessed One's feet and said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, let the Blessed One teach me the Dhamma; let the Well-Farer (Sugata) teach the Dhamma — that which would be for my welfare and happiness for a long time."
