[272] 5. A person is bound up with people; a person relies only upon people; a person is oppressed by people, and a person oppresses people. For what need, indeed, has he of people, or of what is begotten of a person? Let him depart, leaving behind people, who have oppressed many a person.¹ (Thus spoke) the Elder Sabbamitta. ¹ The Burmese and European editions read *gacchantaṃ* (gacchaṃ taṃ) [for *gaccheyya*]. 6.
