[308] Five days had I been gone forth — a trainee (sekha), the heart's goal not yet attained — when, as I entered my dwelling, a resolve of mind arose in me: "I shall not eat, I shall not drink, I shall not go out from my dwelling, nor will I lie down on my side, so long as the dart of craving (taṇhā) is not drawn out." As I dwelt thus — behold my energy and exertion! The three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been done. The Elder Paccaya.
