[315] 9. His limbs like the joints of a kāla creeper (kālapabbaṅga), lean, the veins standing out upon his body, knowing moderation in food and drink, a man is of undaunted mind. Touched by gadflies and mosquitoes in the wilderness, in the vast forest, like an elephant at the head of the battle, mindful (sato) he should endure it there. As Brahmā, so is one alone; as a deva, so are two; as a village, so are three; more than that is tumult. The Elder Yasoja.
