Having gone forth out of faith,
newly gone forth, a newcomer,
one should associate with good friends (kalyāṇamittā),
of pure livelihood, who are not indolent.
Having gone forth out of faith,
newly gone forth, a newcomer,
a bhikkhu dwelling in the Saṅgha
should, being wise, train in the Discipline (vinaya).
Having gone forth out of faith,
newly gone forth, a newcomer,
skilled in what is fitting and what is not fitting (kappākappa),
he should wander not led on (apurakkhato).
