[325] Others do not understand
that we here must come to an end;
but for those who do understand this,
quarrels thereby subside.
And while those who do not understand
conduct themselves as though immortal,
those who understand the Dhamma
are unafflicted among the afflicted.
Whatever act is slackly done,
whatever observance (vata) is corrupt,
a holy life (brahmacariya) recalled with suspicion —
that is not of great fruit.
One in whom no reverence
toward companions in the holy life (sabrahmacārī) is found
is as far from the true Dhamma (saddhamma)
as the sky is from the earth.
