[327] 5. For fifty-five years
I wore dust and dirt (rajojalla);
eating but one meal a month,
I tore out my hair and beard.
I stood on one foot;
I shunned the use of a seat;
I ate dry dung,
and I did not accept food specially offered (uddesa).
Having done much of such a kind,
leading to a bad destination (duggati),
while being swept along by the great flood (mahogha),
I went to the Buddha for refuge.
Behold the going for refuge (saraṇagamana)!
Behold the excellence of the Dhamma (dhammasudhammatā)!
The three true knowledges (tisso vijjā) have been attained;
the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
