[356] 10.
When, newly gone forth (pabbajita), but seven years from birth,
having vanquished by psychic power (iddhi) the lord of serpents (pannaginda), himself of great psychic power,
I brought water for my preceptor (upajjhāya) from the great lake Anotatta —
then, seeing me, the Teacher said this:
"Sāriputta, behold this young boy coming,
carrying a water-pot, inwardly well concentrated;
of inspiring conduct, graceful in the postures (iriyāpatha),
Anuruddha's novice (sāmaṇera), and confident in psychic power;
a thoroughbred (ājañña) trained by a thoroughbred, made good by the good,
disciplined by Anuruddha, trained by him whose task is done.
Having attained the supreme peace (santi), having realized the unshakeable state (akuppatā),
that novice Sumana wishes: 'Let no one know me.'"
