[42] 4. "O deity (devatā), you who stand with surpassing beauty,
illuminating all the directions like the morning star (osadhī),
by what is such beauty yours? …
and your beauty shines in all directions?"
That devatā, delighted at being questioned by Moggallāna,
… of what deed (kamma) this is the fruit:
"And I, in Bārāṇasī, full of confidence, gave with my own hands
dried kummāsa (barley porridge) to the Buddha, the Kinsman of the Sun (ādiccabandhu).
See the fruit of a lump of kummāsa, dry and unsalted!
Seeing Alomā happy, who would not make merit (puñña)?
Because of that such beauty is mine …
and my beauty shines in all directions."
