Guttā, that for the sake of which you went forth (pabbajjā),
having given up your son and your own body (samussaya)—
foster just that;
do not fall under the sway of the mind (citta).
Deceived by the mind, beings
who delight in the domain of Māra
run on through the round of many births (saṃsāra),
unknowing.
Sensual desire (kāmacchanda) and ill will (byāpāda),
and personality view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi) as well,
adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa),
and doubt (vicikicchā) as the fifth:
having abandoned these fetters (saṃyojana),
O bhikkhunī—
fetters that lead to the lower world (orambhāgamanīya)—
you will not come back to this again.
Having shunned lust (rāga), conceit (māna),
ignorance (avijjā), and restlessness (uddhacca),
and having cut the fetters,
you will make an end of suffering (dukkha).
Having exhausted the round of births,
having fully understood renewed existence (punabbhava),
free of hunger (nicchātā) in this very life,
you will live at peace.
