[458] 8. Four times, five times, I went out from my dwelling, having gained no peace of mind, without mastery over the mind (citta). I approached a bhikkhunī and questioned her respectfully; she taught me the Dhamma — the elements (dhātu) and the sense bases (āyatana), the four noble truths (ariyasacca), the faculties (indriya) and the powers (bala), the factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) and the eightfold path (aṭṭhaṅgika magga) — for the attainment of the highest goal. Having heard her words, carrying out her instruction, in the first watch of the night I recollected my former births; in the middle watch of the night I purified the divine eye (dibbacakkhu); in the last watch of the night I shattered the mass of darkness (tamokkhandha). And then I dwelt suffusing my body with rapture (pīti) and happiness; on the seventh day, having shattered the mass of darkness, I stretched forth my feet. Vijayā. The Book of Sixes (Chakkanipāta) is concluded. ______________________ The Therīgāthā: The Book of Sevens (Sattakanipāta)
