[1999] "These are those very fields; this, the gold neck-ornament (nikkha) together with its earrings;
these, those green, well-watered lowlands; these, the rivers flowing on;
these, those delightful lotus ponds, resounding with the cries of cakkavāka birds,
covered over with mandālaka flowers, with pink lotuses (paduma) and blue lotuses (uppala).
They who cherished these things as their own — to what quarter, pray, have they gone?
Those are the same fields, that the same stretch of earth,
those the very precincts of park and grove;
yet for me, who see no more that people of mine,
empty, O Nārada, do the quarters appear."
