[2393] Gone forth, having left home, an unclothed ascetic (acela),
naked and shaven-headed, he wanders for the sake of food —
and it was to him, alas, that I revealed the hidden matter!
I have fallen away from both welfare (attha) and righteousness (dhamma).
What must he do, O king of the supaṇṇas (supaṇṇarāja)?
What is his virtue (sīla)? Conducting himself by what observance (vata)
does the ascetic (samaṇa) wander, having abandoned all held as 'his own' (mamāyitāni)?
What must he do to reach the heavenly realm (saggaṃ ṭhānaṃ)?
