[253] A man offers sacrifice at a lake, at the Bahukā and at Gayā,
at Doṇa, at the Timbaru ford, at the swift-streaming great flood;
and therein is the oblation, therein the striving,
of him who, when a guest is seated, does not eat his food alone.
Therefore I say to you, Kosiya: give gifts (dāna) and eat;
ascend the path of the noble ones (ariyamagga) — one who eats alone does not gain happiness.
