Kosiyajātaka

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Jātaka (1) · Vol. 27 · Section 1677

[1677] A man offers oblations at a lake, at the Bahukā and at Gayā, at Doṇa, at the Timbaru ford, at a great river of swift current; and herein is the oblation, herein the endeavor, of him who, when a guest is seated, does not eat his food alone. Therefore I say to you, Kosiya: give gifts (dāna) and eat as well; ascend the noble path (ariyamagga) — one who eats alone gains no happiness.
