[547] Questioned by him, Mātali the deva-charioteer answered;
knowing the result of evil deeds, he who knew declared it to him who knew not:

"Whosoever, for the sake of a guild's wealth,¹
having borne false witness, make debts come to naught—
they, having thus despoiled the people, O lord of men,
those doers of cruel deeds, having engendered evil:
these very people groan in the pit of glowing embers."
