[555] Asked by him, Mātali the charioteer of the devas answered; knowing the result (vipāka) of evil deeds, he declared it to one who knew not: "Those in the world of the living who are doers of wicked deeds, who make their living by taking what is not given — grain, wealth, silver, gold, and goats and sheep too, livestock and buffalo — they, of cruel deeds, having engendered evil: these are the people who lie struck down by spears."
