[556] "Why, yet again, are some of these bound by the neck, [1. Sī., Yu. editions: mahīsaṃ.] while others lie carved up [1], cut into pieces? [2] Fear indeed comes upon me, O charioteer, at the sight. I ask you, Mātali, charioteer of the devas: what evil, pray, have these mortals done, that these people lie cut into pieces?"
