[560] This lake is filled with blood and pus, foul-smelling in nature, impure, wafting a putrid stench; scorched by the burning heat, human beings drink of it. Fear indeed comes upon me, O charioteer, seeing this. I ask you, Mātali, charioteer of the devas: what evil have these mortals done, these people who feed on blood and pus?
