[574] Asked by him, Mātali the deva-charioteer answered;
knowing, he declared to one who knew not
the result (vipāka) of meritorious deeds (puññakamma):
"This one was the householder Soṇadinna; he was a master of giving (dānapati).
He had seven dwellings (vihāra) built, dedicated to those gone forth (pabbajita).
Respectfully he attended upon the bhikkhus residing there;
clothing and food, lodging and lamps
he gave to those of upright nature with a serenely confident mind.
On the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth day of the fortnight,
and during the special fortnight (pāṭihāriyapakkha),
he kept the uposatha observance well endowed with its eight factors,
ever restrained in virtue.
Self-restraint and sharing were his: he rejoices in a celestial mansion (vimāna)."
