[858] Having heard the words of Rucā, King Aṅgati said:
"Much wealth have you squandered — uselessly, fruitlessly.
Ever keeping the uposatha observance, you partake of no food or drink;
yet this [food] was destined not to be eaten: there is no merit (puñña) for one who does not eat.
For even Vijaka, when he heard then what Kassapa had spoken,

heaving hot sighs again and again, wept, and let his tears fall.
So long as you live, Rucā, do not turn your food away;
there is no world beyond, dear lady — why do you vex yourself in vain?"
