[116] **Or he abandons suffering (dukkha) by knowledge (ñāṇa):** if a person, through eye-consciousness¹, through the seeing of forms, abandons the suffering of birth (jāti), abandons the suffering of aging (jarā), abandons the suffering of illness (byādhi), abandons the suffering of death (maraṇa), abandons the suffering of sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair — thus, "or he abandons suffering by knowledge."
