[161] **"Should not bring oneself forward, [thinking,] 'I am equal'"** means: one should not bring oneself forward, thinking, "I am equal [to them]" — whether by birth (jāti), or by clan (gotta), or by standing as a son of a good family (kolaputtika), or by beauty of complexion (vaṇṇapokkharatā), or by wealth (dhana), or by study (ajjhena), or by field of work (kammāyatana), or by field of craft (sippāyatana), or by branch of knowledge (vijjaṭṭhāna), or by learning (suta), or by ready wit (paṭibhāṇa), or on any other ground whatsoever. Hence, "one should not bring oneself forward, [thinking,] 'I am equal.'"
