[340] (Thus said Māgandiya:) "If indeed one declares purity (suddhi) neither by view (diṭṭhi), nor by learning (suti), nor by knowledge (ñāṇa), nor even by virtue and vows (sīlabbata); and yet not by absence of view, absence of learning, absence of knowledge, absence of virtue, or absence of vows either — then I think this teaching (dhamma) is simply confused; some believe that purity comes by way of view."
