[454] "Hope (āsā) and its fulfillment (niṭṭhā)—having what as their source (nidāna)?" means: hope and fulfillment—having what as their source? Born from what, arisen from what, produced from what, brought forth from what, manifested from what? Having what as their source, what as their origin, what as their birth, from what do they spring? He asks about the root of hope and of fulfillment … asks about the origin—he asks, questions closely, requests, entreats, and prompts [him] to declare it. Hence: "Hope and fulfillment—having what as their source?"
