[564] **"Relying on what is seen (diṭṭha), what is heard (suta), virtue and vows (sīlavata), or what is sensed (muta) — and depending on these, he is one who shows contempt (vimānadassī)"**: having relied on, depended upon, grasped, misapprehended, and adhered to what is seen or purity through what is seen, what is heard or purity through what is heard, virtue (sīla) or purity through virtue, vows (vatta) or purity through vows, what is sensed or purity through what is sensed — hence "relying on what is seen, what is heard, virtue and vows, or what is sensed."
**"And depending on these, he is one who shows contempt"**: he does not show respect — for that reason too he is "one who shows contempt." Or else, he generates grief (domanassa) — for that reason too he is "one who shows contempt." Hence "relying on what is seen, what is heard, virtue and vows, or what is sensed — and depending on these, he is one who shows contempt."
