[597] **"He comes to dispute in the world in what lies ahead" (uddhaṃ so lokasmiṃ vivādameti):** "ahead" (uddhaṃ) is said of the future. Having set up his own doctrine (vāda) ahead, he himself comes to, approaches, arrives at, takes hold of, grasps at, and adheres to quarrel, strife, contention, dispute, and wrangling: thus too "he comes to dispute in the world in what lies ahead." Or else, he makes quarrel, makes strife, makes contention, makes dispute, makes wrangling together with another doctrine ahead: "You do not understand this Dhamma and Discipline (Vinaya) …" — "or disentangle yourself, if you are able": thus too "he comes to dispute in the world in what lies ahead."
